The New Archangel Dancers (NAD) of Sitka, Alaska, will be traveling to Japan to give a series of performances in Tokyo, Kagawa, and Nemuro, Hokkaido in the fall of 2005. The City of Sitka and the City of Nemuro established a sister city relationship 30 years ago. The NAD have been invited to perform at a special commemorative ceremony, as well as at the annual Harvest Festival, in schools and retirement homes to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Governor Murkowski and our local Mayor Marko Dapcevich have enthusiastically endorsed this trip.
Performances are listed below:
9/27/2005 | Chiyoda-Kokaido (Chiyoda public hall) |
9/30/2005 | HigashiKagawa-shi |
10/2/2005 | Nemuro Fall Festival |
Our performance in Tokyo has been arranged by the International Artists Center. This nonprofit organization was established to promote world peace through the exchange of artists throughout the world. The proceeds of this performance will benefit the International Artists Center.
The NAD will be promoting Alaska tourism during our stay through our interpreter Atsuo Tsunoda. Atsuo is a former Sitka resident and native of Japan. He will be giving presentations about Alaska in each of the cities we perform in.
We would like to acknowledge and thank Holland America Lines Inc., Kikko, the ATA Corporation and True Alaska Bottling Company for being a corporate sponsor and supporting our travel opportunity.
